Welcome to MafiaManiac, a site is dedicated to the growth and expansion of the online forum game of Mafia.

Mafia is that party game you may have played, where there is a mafia (informed minority) trying to overtake an entire village and the villagers (uninformed Majority) are trying to stop them. We play these mafia games over several days in our forum and we have people from all over the world playing them. These mafia games can be themed from movies, real life situations and almost anything you can think of! Mafia involves a lot of creative strategy, making you think on your toes. You'll be forced trust your gut, check your logic, and deceive or be deceived. If you think you can handle playing, here are a few links you should definitely check out.

Reading this shout, I wondered what would happen if everyone was forced to lie or tell the truth, and the obvious conclusion was a game where half the roster had to lie and half tell the truth. I haven't thought of roles or anything, though I think I'll do this without a theme, but I would like ideas as I develop this game, since I imagine there's a bit of stuff I'll need to think about to make it work.

The thoughts I have so far are as follows:
  1. Half the roster can only lie and half can only tell the truth. The baddies are split as well, though they can speak freely in BTSC.
  2. The honesty of each role will be secret or determined randomly at game start, so roles aren't openly linked to honesty.
  3. Only absolute statements would be allowed, since I don't want to have to deal with ambiguous stuff, and only absolutes is what would make this game fun. However, I'll accept half-truths/lies, as long as what is being said is completely true or false.
  4. Asking/talking about teammates will be forbidden, since I can see a lot of game breaking stuff deriving from that.
  5. I'm thinking I'll make a rule that every question asked must be answered by the asked.
  6. Liars will be required to be consistent. It would be too easy if liars just said two contradictory things to prove that they are a liar. This might be difficult to enforce however, since people often forget past things.
  7. One thing I've thought about is making it so statements can only be made in response to questions. I might also require the questions to only be yes/no. This would definitely draw out the real idea of this game, but I'm not sure how well it would work.
  8. I would like to keep the roles simple, but I also want each role to have a good amount of things to potentially lie about. Metadata for each role might be one way to do this.
  9. I don't think any role should be unique, since I can see that creating situations that are too absolute. Every action and metadata will belong to multiple people.
  10. I think some sort of truth spies would be good, but I also don't want them to be overpowered by being explicitly told if someone is a liar or truth-teller. I'm not sure how to go about this, however. There would be other spies as well; perhaps everyone could be a spy (that actually sounds like it could work well in this). And of course, the spies can be liars as well.

That's all I have at the moment. I'm looking for input on every aspect. Let me know if something won't work, or if you think one of my tentative ideas should be used.

Stargate Command
WinCon: Eliminate Cronus and his Jaffa

General George Hammond
General of Stargate Command. Has great influence. Can prevent a player from getting lynched, but not the same player twice. The identity of the lynch target will not be revealed.

Colonel Jack O'Neill
Leader of SG-1. Able to give a command to someone each night, excluding Hammond. (Redirect)

Daniel Jackson
A brilliant archaeologist, with great insight into alien cultures. Can determine if someone is alien.

Captain Samantha Carter
An incredible scientist and engineer. Able to manipulate alien technology for her own purposes. Because she was briefly a Goa’uld host, she has naquadah in her bloodstream and can detect it in others (tests positive for Cronus, First Prime, Teal’c, and past hosts). Each time she comes into contact with an alien (once per alien) she can add an action to her arsenal, randomly chosen from role spy (doesn’t detect Cronus), follow spy, save, RID lynch save (not the same player twice), block or redirect. She may only use one action per cycle, regardless of available options. None of her bonus actions can be used two cycles in a row.

Teal'c
A swift and powerful Jaffa warrior, determined to put an end to the false gods that are the Goa'uld. Can incapacitate someone each night (Block). May also choose to undergo kel'no'reem, giving up his action in order to gain a boost of strength and morale and a choice of a 24 hour save (save from kill and lynch) or 24 hour trap (keep from acting that night and speaking the following day day, does not provide night or day immunity) the following night.

Doctor Frasier
A distinguished medical doctor who has seen every bizarre and unearthly case imaginable. Can choose to save someone or examine them for a symbiote (can tell whether they are a Goa'uld/Jaffa or human).

Jonas Quinn
An alien from the planet Langara. He has a tremendous sense of duty and will do anything to help his comrades. ODTG can choose to have all baddie actions redirected to himself.

Goa’uld: have BTSC, no NK
WinCon: Be in majority

Cronus
Teal'c's former master, and the murderer of Teal'c's father. Spends the game residing in others. While residing in someone, he has complete control over their words and actions. Any night he can choose to switch hosts, and can choose to either kill his previous host or let them live.

First Prime to Cronus
The greatest among the Cronus' Jaffa, and perfectly loyal to his god. Has the same abilities as Teal'c, without the 24-hour save. If Cronus is killed, he goes on a furious rampage, gaining a kill. He can choose to substitute this kill for two RID kills, but both must be correct for them to go through.

USES GREEK ACCOUNTS

OOP:
trap > redirect > block > others, First Prime > Teal’c > O’Neill > Carter for same actions

Shows in NP:
Killed hosts
RID kills
Successful saves
Jonas’s ODTG

Cronus Mechanics:
  • Has a Greek account used only for BTSC (player advised to keep anonymous to avoid outing via concurrent activity).
  • Begins N1 in a random goodie’s account (not including Teal’c) and assumes their role.
  • He can speak freely in the game thread in this account, and can act and vote in place of the player.
  • The taken over player can look at the game thread via their main account, but will not have access to their Greek account and cannot post.
  • He should not send PMs. Ask questions and submit actions in BTSC.
  • Switching
    • He cannot take over Jaffa (Teal’c and First Prime)
    • His host switch can be blocked and redirected. If he is redirected to someone he can’t occupy, he does not switch.
    • He cannot perform any other actions.
Notes:
  • Aliens are Cronus, Teal'c, First Prime, and Jonas.
  • On a night Cronus moves, Daniel’s and Frasier’s spies test positive for his old host, but not his new host (unless the new host would already test positive).
  • On a night that Cronus moves, targeting Cronus’ old host will give Carter a new ability, while targeting his new host will not (unless his new host is an alien).
  • If Cronus takes over Carter, she will gain a new ability only when Cronus moves to another host, assuming he keeps her alive.
  • If Jonas acts when Cronus switches hosts, Jonas becomes Cronus' new host.
  • In said situation, if Cronus chose to kill his previous host, both Cronus and Jonas die, but Cronus' previous host does not.

The Doctor stepped out of the TARDIS expecting another catastrophe, but things seemed to be the same as they were when the Slitheen invaded London. Things started to come together for him, and he immediately went back into the TARDIS and brought them inside 10 Downing Street. He quickly walk out the door to find the Slitheen, the others hurrying to catch up. Margaret’s disappearance at the beginning of these changes had not been a coincidence, and the Doctor was sure she was involved, and she would of course have her family help her. As he was hurrying through the halls, and opening doors, he realized something had happened to the others. Backtracking, he found them fighting, accusing others of not being who they said they were. The majority of them were accusing Dee, and the Doctor decided to put an end to this. He raised his sonic screwdriver, pointed it at Dee, and activated it. Suddenly, she flickered and then appeared as one of Cassandra’s robots. As the others gasped, the Doctor used his sonic screwdriver to reprogram it to take them to Cassandra herself. Following it, they finally came to her, and a scared look came across her flat face. “Oh dear,” she said, “I bet you’re wondering why I’m here.” Angry at the chaos she had caused and at the loss of his friends, the Doctor took no time to listen to her defense. He pushed her toward the window where she would quickly try out in the light and walked out. The others looked back and forth confused, and hurried back to the Doctor as he got farther away. As they left, they could hear Cassandra screaming, and then a splat as she became too dry and split apart. They then followed the Doctor as he looked for Margaret to put an end to this.

The TARDIS materialized in the observation platform located above Earth at the End of the World. As the group stepped out of the TARDIS, they were immediately aware of tiny twingy and scraping sounds of Cassandra’s spider robots coming from every direction, and heard yells and screams from the corridors. They rushed out of the storage room they had been in to see chaos ensuing throughout the platform. The Doctor grouped everyone together and told them to look for the cause of these changes in events and then ran off down a hallway. Everyone split up and started searching the platform, but as they were searching, suddenly all of the doors locked shut. Hacking the intercom with his sonic screwdriver, the Doctor asked if everyone was all right, and noticed that there were more voices than just his group’s. He demanded to know who they were, but the voices were unclear and he couldn’t tell whose was whose, and everyone was saying they were with him. Blame and accusations were thrown about, eventually falling down to one person - Kiwifruit. The Doctor finally decided that he needed to put an end to this and opened the heat shield for the room Kiwifruit was in. She screamed as the incinerating light started to burn her flesh, yelling, “Rose! Rose!” as she collapsed into silence. The Doctor raised the heat shield again and after finally managing to open the doors, the group got back together to find that the crisped victim had been Jackie. In remorse, they slowly got back into the TARDIS, going back for Barc before continuing on to find whoever started this mess.
